From Healing a Sparrow to Loving Birds

From Healing a Sparrow to Loving Birds

“Be kind to all creatures; this is the true religion.” —Buddha

My passion for birds began at the age of four, sparked by a special experience with an injured sparrow my mom discovered in our yard. We brought the little bird inside and nurtured it back to health. After about two weeks, our feathered friend was ready to return to the wild.

We were a bit sad to see him go, but to our delight, he kept coming back to visit us every day around mealtime.

That early connection with the sweet sparrow blossomed into a lifelong love of birds. As I grew older and eventually moved to the city, I found myself especially drawn to pigeons. Their resilience, colorful personalities and complex relationships with each other captivated me, deepening my appreciation for all bird species.

Here’s a photo of me feeding our sparrow friend with an eyedropper of baby cereal.
